DIY Spa Day

Here at Braxton Gilbert Fitness, we know the importance of taking some time out to rest and relax. One of the best ways to recover after working with different personal trainer types is to host a DIY spa day in the comfort of your own home. Here are some of our favorite home remedies which anyone can try after a long day of work or training.

DIY Coconut-Cranberry Body Scrub

With the holiday season fast approaching, this would be the perfect treat for your DIY spa day. Body scrubs offer many benefits to users, including improved circulation and glowing skin. For this recipe, you’ll combine a third of a cup of sea salt with two-thirds of a cup of finely chopped fresh cranberries. You’ll then need a tablespoon of shredded unsweetened coconut and a tablespoon of raw virgin coconut oil. To finish the recipe off, add a teaspoon of ground cloves. All you need to do is mix all of the ingredients together, and you’ll have a whole jar of this DIY body scrub to use regularly. It would also be a great gift for anyone who likes to pamper themselves or enjoys natural beauty products.

Honey Avocado Face Mask

No DIY spa day is complete without a face mask, which you can put on while relaxing with a good book or a movie. We love this honey avocado face mask, which offers a bright face mask that will leave your skin glowing. It’s so important to give our skin the care it deserves, especially after sweating during a session with one of our Mobile fitness trainers. To make a honey avocado face mask, you just need three ingredients. Combine ¼ cup of ripe avocado with two tablespoons of raw honey and half a teaspoon of cider vinegar. Mix everything together until you have a smooth paste, which you can apply directly to your face. Due to the inclusion of avocado in the recipe, you need to use this face mask immediately. It offers you two to three applications, so it’s ideal for a DIY spa day with friends.

Lavender Face Mist

This lavender face mist can be used for many different purposes, and you’ll love taking it to Braxton Fitness to use after your training sessions. Lavender is known for its soothing qualities, and apple cider vinegar is added to freshen and tone the face. You’ll start by pouring boiling water over lavender buds, which you should steep for about 15 minutes. From there, you’ll strain out the lavender and remove it from the mixture. Once the mixture comes to room temperature, you can then add a teaspoon of cider vinegar before bottling it up, ready to use. We recommend making this in advance of your spa day, and it can be used to freshen up after using the face mask recipe we shared above.

Apple-Cider Vinegar Hair Mask

Don’t neglect your hair during your next DIY spa day, as we often put our hair through so much each week. Apple-cider vinegar works to cleanse your scalp and remove any build-up of excess oil. Honey is also added to this hair mask, as it balances the skin and nourishes the shaft of the hair. For anyone who is worried about their hair drying up when using this type of mask, you’ll be pleased to know there is olive oil as well to add moisture. Combine one and a half tablespoons of cider vinegar with two tablespoons of honey and about one teaspoon of olive oil. If you do have very greasy hair, put less olive oil into the recipe. Leave it soaking on your hair for ten to fifteen minutes before rinsing with your usual shampoo or water.

Dry Brushing

If you haven’t already invested in a dry brush, this is one of our favorite tools to help improve your skin. After training at our Mobile, AL gym, you can use a dry brush for full-body exfoliation. It will help to increase your blood flow and collagen production, which improves elasticity and strengthens your skin. During your DIY spa day, start at the top of the feet and brush up toward the heart. Make sure you remember to do your back and arms as well. We recommend doing this before showering or bathing for best results, and you’ll find that you soon want to add this to your daily routine.

Rose Oatmeal Bath

One of our favorite things to do after a long session at Gilbert Fitness is returning home to a warm bath. This is the ideal way to help you recover from a hard training session and relax your tired muscles. This rose milk bath recipe will be the perfect addition to your DIY spa day and is very quick and easy to make. Oats are ideal for anyone who struggles with skin irritation, as they help to reduce itching or redness. You’ll also use rose petals in this bath recipe, which offer anti-inflammatory and antiseptic benefits. Just combine one cup of oats with one cup of dried organic rose petals in your food processor. When stored in a container, it can last up to six months, so it would be a great gift this holiday season. Use about a cup per bath for a truly luxurious experience, which you can add to your running water.

As you can see, it’s so easy to create a DIY spa day at home without spending a fortune. It’s the perfect way to treat yourself after a busy week and some tough training sessions with our personal trainers in Mobile. Most of these DIY remedies use very simple and natural ingredients, so you will easily be able to find them in your local store. We recommend inviting your friends or family members over to join you for a DIY spa day or night, as you’ll find it to be a fun bonding experience for you all. After doing all of the treatments listed here today, you’ll feel like a new person and ready to take on any challenge that comes your way.
